The Alpine Formula 1 team and the FIA have condemned online abuse directed towards Yuki Tsunoda following a practice incident with Franco Colapinto at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. Colapinto impeded several drivers in FP1 upon his F1 return with Alpine, resulting in Tsunoda expressing his frustration at being blocked. Despite the clash being a typical Friday practice occurrence with no major consequences, some Argentinian fans, including racially-charged comments, targeted Tsunoda on his Instagram. Both before and after qualifying, Colapinto encouraged his fans to show respect towards other drivers and acknowledged Tsunoda’s feelings of being upset were justified. Alpine and the FIA have spoken out against the online abuse Tsunoda faced from a minority of fans over the weekend. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized the importance of unity and respect in motorsport, supporting both Tsunoda and Colapinto for addressing the online abuse issue in the sport.
